Cameron Jenkins will continue playing softball after high school and at the same time stay close to home. A win-win for the Guthrie High School senior. Jenkins signed her letter to play with Langston University in front of a large crowd in the GHS library on Tuesday morning.

Cameron JenkinsJenkins helped lead the Lady Jays softball program to a 20-13 season as the every day catcher. However, her ability to play up in the middle is what grabbed the Langston coach’s attention. Photo Gallery

“When I showed up (to watch Guthrie play) I saw her play shortstop and catcher and that’s exactly what I am looking for. She’s fast, she smart and her athletic skills are incredible,” second year head coach Hosea Bell said following the signing.

“I chose Langston because it is very close to home and have some friends that actually go to Langston. It’s such a blessing to have the opportunity to go and play something I love,” Jenkins said following photo shoots with friends and family.

GHS head coach Chase Langley agrees with Bell and is now trying to find ways of replacing Jenkins for the upcoming season.

“It’s going to be hard to replace her. She was great defensive and hit really well this last year. It will be hard, hard to replace her,” Langley said. “They (Langston) are getting the toughest (player) Guthrie has had in a while. She’s tougher than most of our high school boys. She’s work harder than anyone out there.

Jenkins classroom work and strong family background were other great aspects that wanted the coach see Jenkins come to Langston.

“My team’s GPA (grade point average) is 3.25 and she will fit right in academically. That is what I am trying to build at Langston right now with family structures and this is going to help with that piece of the puzzle.”
