Fab 4 go out winners in final home game with 11-2 victory

They are known as the Fab 4. The Fab 4 and a junior played an instrumental role for the Lady Jays softball team winning on Senior Night. Guthrie defeated NW Classen Monday evening and now shifts their focus to the post-season.

After trailing 2-0 through two-and-half innings, Guthrie scored 11 unanswered runs for the run-rule victory. The Jays improve their overall record to 18-11 as the Fab 4 seniors Bailey Shaffer, Cameron Jenkins, Chelsey Watson and Kaycie Carroll played their final home game.

Shaffer got things rocking for Guthrie went she sent a pitching sailing over the left-center field wall to lead off the home half of the third inning to cut the lead in half.

Jenkins followed that with a triple and was quickly singled in by junior Trista LeGrande to tie the game, 2-2, after the inning.

Guthrie opened the game up in the fourth inning with five runs.

Addy Bradley collected a RBI single to score Lauren Waddell and give the Jays the lead for good.

Shaffer, who finished 2-3 and reached base in three of her four plate appearances, singled and two batters later LeGrande, who was impressive by reaching base all four times and finished with two hits, also reached with by single. Both would come in and score on a two-RBI single from Madison Dutton.

Watson followed Dutton’s two RBI’s with two of her own runs batted in when she sent the ball to right field.

Carroll singled in her first at bat and in centerfield came in made a nice catch they made her go down to her knees to haul the catch in.

Dutton finished the game with 5 RBI’s, including a 3-RBI double to right-center field for the walk-off win in the fifth inning.

Along with her stellar day at the plate, LeGrande pitched four innings to collect the win in the circle.

Guthrie will now travel to Collinsville for the two-day regional, which begins on Wednesday. The Lady Jays will play Claremore at noon. Related story: Softball headed to Collinsville for regional play
