Jacob Chappell leads Bluejays to 6-3 victory

Bluejays beat Piedmont 6-3 Tuesday behind both the bat and the arm of Jacob Chappell.

Guthrie Baseball LogoChappell racked up three RBIs on one hit for Bluejays. He tripled in the fourth inning.

Chappell put together a nice outing. Chappell held Piedmont hitless over 1 1/3 innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out two.

Trevin Michael was charged with the loss. He allowed six runs in six innings, walked two and struck out three.

Bluejays closer Blaze Hastings put away the final 17 outs to record the save.

Bluejays never surrendered the lead after the fourth inning, scoring four runs on an RBI single by Zane Maltz and a three-run triple by Chappell.

One Piedmont run crossed the plate in the top half of the fifth, making the score 4-1. An error triggered Piedmont’s comeback. Bluejays stopped the rally after Blaze got Bryce McDermott to strike out.

Two runs in the top of the sixth helped Piedmont close its deficit to 4-3. A two-run error fueled Peidmont’s comeback. Jacob ended the inning by getting Lane Tooman to fly out.

Bluejays answered Piedmont’s top inning with two runs of its own in the sixth. Bluejays scored on a two-run single by Reed Roberts.
