Both teams will square off and begin the Duncan Chisholm Holiday Shoot-Out with a 10 a.m. Thursday start to the three-day event.

The winner will meet either Duncan or Elgin on Friday at 4 p.m. The two losers will fall to the consolation round and play at 1 p.m. on Friday.

The top of the bracket includes Norman North, U.S. Grant, Iowa Park and Elk City.

First year head coach Pete Papahronis’ team while is young has shown they will be a team to be reckon with as they played with the top-ranked Shawnee Wolves for four quarters before falling 66-50.

Melinda Murillo, the lone senior on the team, continues to be the leader for the young team by averaging 12.6 points a game.

However, freshmen Micayla Haynes leads the team in scoring at 13.6 per game, including a career high 19 points in the loss in Shawnee. She also chipped in with 17 points in her varsity debut against El Reno on opening night.

Haynes, along with fellow freshmen Jillian Chappell and Aaliyah Allison, will be a key component for not only this season, but in the future.

Sophomore Kamber Smedley is finding her offensive touch after spending most of last year as a primary defensive player. Smedley scored a career high 10 points against Shawnee and averages 8 points a game.

One thing that Papahronis will look to improve is defensive play. The coach prides himself in defense, but his team is currently allowing 55.6 points a game. The coach will look to narrow that stat down to under 50 points per game.

Kamber Smedley tied the game at 49-all with a made free throw with 19 seconds left in the fourth quarter. However, Madill put back a shot on the following possession and leaving :06 left on the game clock.

Head Coach Pete Papahronis was not happy with the way his team came out played in the first three quarters especially on the defensive side of the ball. His squad allowed 45 point in the first 24 minutes, but held Madill to just six points in the fourth quarter. However, it was too much to overcome.
