Despite several seasons of losing records, the Guthrie High School softball team captured the attention of Class 5A in 2012 with post season honors.

The Lady Jays wanted to punch their ticket to the state tournament for the first time since 1997 and came down to the final innings in regional play, but came up just short.

Guthrie was ranked as high as 5th in the second season of head coach Lee Linsenmeyer, who has brought in a winning program frame of mind. The result ended with a 23-16 record to end several straight losing records.

On the field, Madison Sutton was named to The Oklahoman’s All-City Second Team. She led the Lady Jays in hitting with a .495 mark while collecting 55 hits and 40 RBI’s.

Aryn Richardson, Bailey Shaffer, Samantha Simpson, McKale Hopfer, Madison Sutton were named to the All District Team.

Shaffer was a force in the circle for Linsenmeyer as she finished with a 2.51 earn run average with 123 strikeouts in 139 innings pitched. Shaffer was dynamite at the plate as well by batting .424 with 56 hits and 45 runs.

Richardson was well deserving of her most improved status as she came on to hit .453 in her senior campaign.

McKale Hopfer finished a fabulous four-year career at first base with a .950 fielding percentage while supplying power at the plate with 38 hits, 36 RBI’s while hitting .352.

On the All-Region team Guthrie added six players: Hopfer, Sutton, Simpson, Richardson, Gracynn Smith and Danni Graybeal.
