Emily Davis is not only a Star, but a national champion Star.

The 2008 Guthrie alum and a senior member of the Oklahoma City University women’s basketball team captured the 2012 NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball National Championship on Tuesday evening inside the Frankfort Convention Center in Frankfort, Kentucky.

The top ranked Stars finish the season with an unbelievable record of 35-1 with a 69-48 win over the defending national champions team and second ranked Union (Tennessee) to capture the program’s sixth national title.

The Stars won their last 21 games of the season, including five in the national tournament.

Davis played in all 36 games for the Stars and started two of those games.

This season, Davis averaged over 13 minutes and nearly 3-points per game, but what the four-year lettermen provided the Stars was hustle, the willingness to win and the intangibles that may not show up in the box scores.

Davis, the daughter of Rick and Pam Davis of Guthrie, averaged 15.9 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals per game as a senior at Guthrie. In her junior season, she led the team to a regional championship for the first time in years.

Among some of her high school accolades include: Oklahoma Girls Basketball Coaches Association all-state … Oklahoman first-team Class 5A all-state … honorable-mention all-city … McDonald’s all-American nominee … first-team all-conference … all-region … Oklahoma Coaches Association all-state … played in all-city game, OGBCA all-state game and OCA all-state games … averaged 14.4 points as a junior … honorable-mention Oklahoman all-state … third-team Oklahoman all-city high school …valedictorian … member of the National Honor Society
