OSSAA denies Simek eligibility; will not file injunction

The attorney of Clint Simek’s family confirmed with Guthrie Sports Page, on Friday afternoon, that the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association has denied the hardship exemption application filed by Guthrie Public Schools last week.

Attorney George Freedman went on to say that the Simek family will not file an injunction. The filing of an injunction could have held up the 5A state playoffs.

Clint Simek was ruled ineligible following an anonymous letter in October claiming the family never made a bona fide move from Prague to Guthrie earlier this year.

The senior, who will become eligible to play any sports following the football season, played in eight games and finished with 15-catches for 205 yards and three touchdowns. On defense, he collected 13 tackles and two sacks.

The original ruling by the OSSAA forced Guthrie to forfeit the 8-wins that Simek played in, but was over turned by the OSSAA Board of Directors after Guthrie filed an appeal to put the BlueJays back into the playoffs.

Freedman, in a telephone interview with GSP, said the family did not want hold up the playoffs.
