Haynes just misses out of NFL playoffs

At this rate, Micayla Haynes is pacing herself to make the NFL playoffs.

For the second straight year, Haynes competed in the NFL Punt, Pass and Kick competition in Dallas, Texas and just last week was eight feet from winning the event after advancing past the local and state events.

Haynes, a Guthrie Junior High student-athlete, has been a stand-out on the track and basketball court throughout Junior High and summer teams.

After the punt and pass skills portion, Haynes led the pack, but was out kicked by her opponent to finish second overall with 279 points. The winner will now move on and compete at one of the NFL playoff games in January against the other 31 NFL teams winners.

The NFL Punt, Pass and Kick program is a national skills competition for boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 15 to compete separately against their peers. Established in 1961, the PPK program is the oldest NFL Youth Football program. This year PPK is celebrating its 50th Anniversary.

Despite not winning, Haynes was able to take  in the Dallas and Seattle game, and will have two more years to compete in the competition.

Haynes said she liked to thank Guthrie Kiwanis for their help and support.
