Landry Chappell gives his commitment to Oklahoma State

Bookmark and Share

It has been an emotional week for Guthrie’s Landry Chappell off the playing field, but the senior leader gave Oklahoma State University the news they have been waiting for.

Chappell, who won the 215-pound wrestling state championship last season for the BlueJays, gave his verbal commitment to Cowboys wrestling head coach John Smith on Thursday. The same day as national signing day.

Chappell did not want to speak publicly with respect to his football teammates, but confirmed he will wrestle for the Cowboys.

Along with Bryan Dutton last season, Chappell claimed the first state individual championship for the Jays program since 1992.

Chappell is a 4-year letterman for the football and baseball team in Guthrie. The senior was 24-3 in his championship run on the mat.

I cannot tell you how proud I am of this young man! He is a champion in academics and athletics! Any school would be blessed to have him as a student.

Can’t say that I’m in total favor of the school, but it’s a helluva a wrestling program and I even hear now they have a football team! Congrats, LC and good luck! I’ll see you and your dad at the fairgrounds this winter!! 🙂
