BlueJays win OBU run in Shawnee
The Guthrie varsity boys cross country team collected another win last week in the Oklahoma Baptist University meet in Shawnee as did the junior varsity squad.
The two-time defending 5A state champions placed four runners in the top 12 en route to a comfortable 50 point win in the 5000 meter run. The junior varsity had the race of the day by defeating two teams by a total of three points. Also, running at the meet was the boys and girls Junior High teams.
Senior Jonathan Ogan collected another first place win with a running time of 16:42 and just seven seconds behind him was fellow senior Walker Cross for second place.
Senior Hunter Sallee had his highest finish in the 2011 season with a fourth place showing in a time of 17:23. Rounding out the finishers for the Jays was Brandon Greenlee in 12th, Evan Watts 23rd and Taylor Self finished in 28th.
Guthrie finished with a team low 33 points and was followed by Coweta’s 83 and Carl Albert’s 110 points.
The Lady Jays team has consisted of one runner this season in Lauren Toney. She placed 26th overall with a time of 14:41.
The junior varsity needed every top scorer they could get and they got it in the 5k race. The Jays escaped with a two-point win over Deer Creek and a three-point win over Coweta.
Leading the charge was Leroy Unruh and his time of 19:50 as he crossed the line second overall. Adam Noriega was next in 4th place, Sean Harvey 14th, Michael Gunter 21st and Kyle Owens finishing 33rd. Other runners included Tommy Beauchamp, Jim Johnson, Issac Gottfried, Calvin Parker and Dakota Pruitt.
As she has all season long, Lexi Hasting led the Lady Jays with a 7th place finish in a heavy 6A field. She crossed the line with a time of 10:01. Just 61 seconds behind Hastings was Emily Smith. Other runners for the Junior Jays was Brianna Gilbert, Ashley Noe, Jaide Golden, Michelle Barb and Tessa Robinson.
For the Junior Jays boys team they placed 11th overall with Nathanie Pearce team leading 9:43 mark. 21 seconds behind him was Conner Self. Rounding out the team was Noah Winn, James Clay, Chase Pfeifer, Noah Rozza and Caleb Savill.
