El Reno pitcher improving following line drive to head

The pitcher, for the El Reno softball team, is improving after suffering a line drive to the head in their game last week in Guthrie.

Guthrie Sports Page talked with El Reno head coach Perry Owens and optimistic about the recovery of freshmen pitcher Hannah Ruoff.

“Her speech is still slurred, but is expected to have a full recovery,” Owens said. “She is out of any activity for at least two months.”

Ruoff was struck on the left side of the head by a batted ball, just above the ear. She was taken by ambulance from the field to Logan Medical Center and was later transported to Oklahoma City.

Owens went on to say that the pitcher (Hannah) was to start coming to school for a couple of hours starting on Monday.

Jerry Ruoff (father of Hannah) told the El Reno Tribune that a CAT scan in Guthrie revealed a small “sliver of blood” on the brain. Two more CAT scans were performed at OU Children’s Medical Center in Oklahoma City. Ruoff’s father said the tests showed no fractures to the skull but there was a knot and some blood on the brain.

“Thanks for your thoughts and prayers,” Owens concluded.
