Guthrie Football schedule becoming clear for 2012 and 2013

Bookmark and Share

While the Guthrie BlueJays are preparing for the upcoming 2011 football season, the Jays have unofficially secured their 2012 and 2013 schedule.

The OSSAA is a few days out from approving the ADM numbers and the coaches recommendations for district alignments for the 2012-13 football seasons.

The BlueJays will continue to play (in order) Duncan, Ponca City and Enid in the non-district schedule thru 2013. All three schools appeared on the schedule for the first time last year and will once again this season. High school programs generally agree to two-year deals that coincide with district schedules.

With approval from the OSSAA, Guthrie will again be in District 5A-1 along with Carl Albert, Bishop McGuinness, Deer Creek, El Reno, Guymon, Northwest and Western Heights.

McGuinness and Guymon make the move up to 5A while Northwest makes the move over to 5A-1 from 5A-2. Noble will go from 5A-1 to 5A-2, Southeast will move from 5A-1 to 5A-3 and Ada will head back to Class 4A.

The future district schedule will match up some key games that the Jays have become familiar with over the years with Carl Albert, Deer Creek, El Reno and McGuinness. In those games, Guthrie has come out with a 20-9 record in the 10 past seasons.

Perhaps the most talked aspect of the new district will be the addition of Guymon. Guymon, located deep in the Oklahoma panhandle, is accustom to the long district trips such as with McGuinness when both were in 4A-1, but it will be new territory for the other schools with the long trip.

Some teams have traveled the day before their game with the Tigers and some have traveled on game day. For Guthrie the trip will be 253 miles one way with Woodward being the half way mark. El Reno comes in at 237 miles, Carl Albert 272 and Deer Creek at 276.

Here is the tentative proposal for Class 5A:

District 5A-1
Carl Albert
Bishop McGuinness
Deer Creek
El Reno
Western Heights

District 5A-2
Capitol Hill
Del City
Lawton MacArthur

District 5A-3
Tulsa Hale
Tulsa Kelley
Tulsa Memorial

District 5A
Tulsa Central
Tulsa East Central
