And boom goes the dynamite. The Fourth of July and New Year’s Eve just got a touch louder with the Guthrie City Council passing an ordinance that allows the sale and discharge of fireworks.

Class C fireworks can be discharged (assuming weather conditions are favorable) on July 3, 4 and 5 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. and on December 31st from 11:30 p.m. to 11:59. On January 1st discharged is allowed from 12:00 a.m. to 12:30 a.m.

Fireworks are only allowed on a non-combustible surface and at least 25 feet away from any permanent structure. Fireworks also cannot be discharged on a public street or property without city approval.

A person of at least 18 years of age can purchase a permit ($15.00). The permit holder is required to clean up the fireworks and the debris and must be present during the discharge.

A gathering of 25 or more people will be considered a public discharge and must get approval from the City to obtain a permit.

If weather conditions pose a fire hazard, the permits can also become null and void.
