Linsenmeyer named Guthrie head softball coach

Lee Linsenmeyer was very much welcomed to Guthrie High School, unlike the twister that tore the Guthrie area just days before, as he was introduced as the new head softball coach of the Lady Jays.

Linsenmeyer, who was approved at a special board of education meeting on Wednesday afternoon, has been coaching for 15 seasons and is exciting about the opportunity he has been given.

“I am really excited to be here and ready to get going,” Linsenmeyer said after holding a 55 minute meeting with the team on Thursday afternoon.

Linsenmeyer’s last coaching stint was at Enid High School were he coached for six seasons from 2005-2010. In addition, he has coached at Stillwater, Perkins, Stroud, and Mulhall-Orlando.

Linsenmeyer takes over the position that was open after former coach Brian Jackson pursued other opportunities outside of education.

Linsenmeyer’s wife, Karie, is the head softball coach at Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa.

“Fundamentals are the most important thing. You have to understand the game and play it correctly,” Linsenmeyer said. “I am big on small ball and that is what we are going to do.”

The Lady Jays finished the past season with a 14-23 record and a 12-20 campaign in 2009 under Jackson’s tenure.
