Bryan Dutton, Landry Chappell, and Luke Davis have been asked and have accepted to play in this year’s Sunbelt Classic. Dutton will play in the sophomore games in Oklahoma City and both Chappell and Davis will play in the junior games in McAlester.

The sophomore games will play out over four days beginning June 2nd and will feature teams from Oklahoma, Canada, Texas, Nebraska, and Colorado. Dutton earned the spot with nearly 200 athletes competing for the Oklahoma team.

John Schwartz, the Sunbelt Classic organizer, said 191 players who have played in the 37 years of the Senior Sunbelt Classic have gone on to play in the major leagues.

Dutton helped lead the Jays baseball team to the state tournament for the first time since 2005. He led the team in hits (57), runs (56) and home runs (12).

Chappell and Davis will wait a week longer before they play against fellow all-star players from Mississippi, Georgia, Tennessee, Texas, Missouri, Arizona, Colorado, and Canada in the junior games. Oklahoma will field two teams in the classic that begin on June 10th and runs through the 15th.

Chappell proved to be vital not only behind the plate, but in the field and on the mound in the season that saw the Jays finish with a 27-13 record. Chappell led the team in doubles (19), RBIs (55), and batting average (.478).

Davis continued his tremendous play in the outfield while easily leading the BlueJay squad with 20 stolen bases. At the plate, Davis had fewer strike outs than any other player that played in at least 25 games and helped his on base percentage of .462.

All three athlete’s excel on the football field with Dutton setting Guthrie High School passing records, Chappell is among the top tacklers in the entire state, and Davis has been near the top in tackles for the stingy defense that was the best in 5A and near the top in all the state.

Both Chappell and Dutton each won state championships in wrestling this past February. It is the first time Guthrie Wrestling has had a state champion since 1992. Davis is among the best in the state in showing livestock as he continues to earn high honors.

However, it does not end there. All three have very high-grade point averages that any college, or university would accept.
