Five Guthrie wrestlers were back on the mat this past weekend with a couple of Jays moving on to national championships in July.

Current freshmen Conner Howard lead an impressive list of Guthrie wrestlers at the cadet qualifier at Tulsa Union High School. Howard finished first in freestyle and first in greco to earn a spot at the prestigious Asic/Accolade Cadet National Championships in Fargo, North Dakota.

The O’Connor twins, Austin and Timothy, also competed, at Union, in the cadet division with Austin qualifying for the Asic/Accolade Cadet National Championships. He finished second to state placer TJ Buser, of Geary at 140 pounds, and brother Timothy finishing fourth at 125. Timothy found himself in a very deep and impressive weight class with several state champions and finalist.

Attending the junior portion of the tournament was recent Oklahoma City University signee Michael Conner finishing fourth in freestyle and first in greco.

The talk of the tournament was John Davison in the semifinals of freestyle as he defeated 6A State runner-up and Reno Tournament of Champions champion and the top ranked heavyweights in the nation before going on and winning the weight.

Prior to this tournament, Bryan Dutton qualified for the Junior Nationals at the USAOK wrestling Junior Freestyle and Greco Tournament held at Westmoore High School.
