Jeff Capel fired at Oklahoma; listen to press conference

The Oklahoma Sooners basketball program will be searching for a new head coach after the firing of Jeff Capel. The decision was announced on Monday afternoon by athletic director Joe Castiglione after rumors begin to spread Monday morning.

The OU program finished 13-18 and 14-18 the last two seasons. Capel compiled a 96-69 record in five seasons at OU, making two NCAA Tournament appearances. But the Sooners experienced their first back-to-back losing seasons since 1967 and failed to make the postseason in three of Capel’s five seasons.

In my opinion, they should’ve gave him one more year. But who am I, right? I don’t think any new hire they bring in now is going to have any different success than he was going to……..I hope I’m wrong.

I would have liked to see Capel have one more year too. I am a big fan of Capel, but I understand what OU had to do with really no promise coming in (recruits) and season tickets dropping. Of course, the main issue was wins and losses.
