The Guthrie girls basketball team is back in the top 15 in the latest rankings. After Tuesday nights game, you can see why.

The Lady Jays jumped out to a 6-0 run to start the game and finished the first quarter with a 13-0 run, in 4:12, to go on and rout Noble 59-21. Guthrie improves to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the Suburban Conference.

Listen to assistant coach Jeff Ball’s post game radio interview.

Senior Jill Davis was the spark plug head coach Terry Carris was looking for as she responded with a game high 16 points, including 12 from beyond the 3-point arc. Davis was named the Farmers and Merchants Bank Player of the Game.

Junior Ashley Shields seems to have found her shooting touch as she finished with 10 points and has scored 31 points in the last four games. In the first two games of the season, Shields was only able to score three points.

Guthrie took advantage of Noble’s 13 first quarter turnovers as well as playing solid defense. The Bears offense managed just 13 points in the first 24 minutes.

Guthrie went on multiple runs, including an 8-0 run in the second quarter, and a 14-0 run that started in the third and finished in the fourth quarter.

The Lady Jays will take their two-game winning streak to the Chickasha Tournament where they begin play with Lawton MacArthur, Thursday, with a tip time of 4:00. A year ago, Guthrie defeated Mac, 48-43, on day two of the Chickasha tournament.
