The Guthrie Junior High wrestling program started their season with the Carl Albert Open, on Saturday, with all nine grappler’s picking up wins.

The Jays had four wrestler’s place, including two Junior Jays winning top prize.

Freshman Brent Berryhill and Alex Nelson, an 8th grade student, came away with first place finishes. Nelson missed nearly the entire season a year ago with an injury.

Freshman Cory Douglas placed fourth and War Mothershed, a seventh grade student, placed second.

“For the first preseason tournament of the year I think we wrestled pretty well and have positives to take away from the day,” Coach Bryan Couch said. ” The most important thing is we saw things we all need to work on.”

Next up for the Junior Jays will be the Southmoore Open Tournament on November 20th.
