With a 9-1 record, the Guthrie football program is back in the playoffs for the sixth consecutive year and the ninth time in 10 seasons.

The Jays are 6-2 in first round games under the guidance of head coach Rafe Watkins and have won their last five first round games. The only home playoff loss in the first round was in Watkins first season, in 2001, against Altus.

Overall, Guthrie is 14-6 in playoff games and have won two state championships.

Not only has Guthrie won the last five opening round games, but have dominated in those games, outside of last year’s win in Duncan, by outscoring their opponents 184 to 19 and pitching three shut-outs.

The Jays open the 2010 playoffs with the Durant Lions, who will enter Jelsma Stadium with a 5-5 record and winners of their last two games. The match-up will be the third meeting in three seasons after both teams played in the same district in 2008 and 2009.

The Lions were 0-5 against playoff teams this season, despite being the fifth ranked team in 5A in passing yards with an average of 161-yards per game. Guthrie was 4-0 against playoff competition.

2001 Altus Home Loss 0-21

2006 Chickasha Home Won 48-7
2007 Ardmore Home Won 61-0
