It was the final home and regular season game for the Guthrie Junior High football teams and seemed to be defensive about it.

Both the 7th and 8th grade BlueJay defense’s proved to be the difference in collecting to wins against McGuinness, Tuesday evening, at Jelsma Stadium. The 7th grade snapped a two-game losing streak with a 12-0 win and the 8th grade squad have now won two games straight with a 20-12 win.

“Defense, again, played a key with four takeaway’s,” 8th grade head coach Jeff Ball said. “Coach (Casey) Porter, Coach (Seth) Morgan, and Coach (Bryan) Couch really prepared the defense last night and put the offense in good positions to move the ball and score.”

Ball’s 8th grade squad, who are now 5-2, jumped out to a 12-0 lead, but had to hold on in the fourth quarter as the Irish narrowed the gap. The Jays were led offensively by Beau Davis and the players up front.

“Beau was gone las week and really sparked the running game this week. Our offensive and defensive line played very well and worked hard all night,” Ball said.

For the 7th grade, it was a back-and-forth battle up til the final quarter when the Jays scored two touchdowns to pick up the win.

“The defense played very well and we were happy to get a win against the Irish,” Ball concluded.

The 8th Grade team will play their Super Saturday game against the Harrah Panthers starting with a new time of 11:30. The game is for third place in the conference and will be played on October 16th in Noble. The 7th Grade’s Super Saturday will be 1:00, at Deer Creek, with Chickasha. The game will be played for fifth place..
