Seniors prove to be big on Senior Night

Anytime it is Senior Night for a team, the home team is supposed to win and in the process have the seniors contribute in the win. For the Guthrie Lady Jays Softball team you can check both of those off the list.

Guthrie jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead after the first inning and were able to keep their distance from Noble while collecting their 12th win with a 9-3 rainy win.

The Lady Jays honored Amber Coffman, Jamey Goad, Kenzie Graeber and Macy Schneeberger, who head coach Brian Jackson said had a big part in the win.

Coffman smashed a triple while Graeber added a double and both went on to score. Schneeberger, who Jackson says has been by far Guthrie’s most consistent player, had two hits and scored both times and Goad came up with a big play in right that kept Noble off the board and getting back into the game.

Noble narrowed the lead down to 5-1 after scratching a run in the third, but Guthrie rallied for two more runs in the bottom half of the inning to go back up 7-1. Noble added two more runs in the next inning, but sophomore pitcher McKale Hopfer was able to sit the Lady Bears down from there.

The game was played with off and on rain before the rain picked up in the top of the 7th, but Guthrie was able to get three ground outs in a row to retire Noble and end the game.
