Lewis unable to stop a story book career
Guthrie senior golfer McCandren Lewis was in position to dethrone one of the best golfers the state of Oklahoma has ever seen on the high school level.
With four birdies and one bogey, Altus’ Megan Blonien posted a 3-under-par 67 to turn a one-stroke deficit into a three-shot win for her fourth consecutive 5A individual championship.
The Oklahoma State signee becomes only the second player in 82 years of Oklahoma girls golf to win four state championships.
Tabitha Buck, a state qualifier for the Lady Jays, improved her score card by 21 strokes on day two. She scored a 124 on her first day in the state tournament before rebounding with a 103 on Thursday.
For Lewis, the third place finish marks her highest finish in the state tournament after finishing sixth in 2011 and fifth in 2010. She was instrumental in turning the girls golf program around, including a seventh place finish in 2009.
