Jaden Chappell and John Cotton continue to reel in the post season baseball honors. The latest achievement is being named to The Oklahoman’s Big All City first team.

Chappell was names as the first baseman while Cotton was named as an outfielder. In addition to the all city honor, both were named honorable mention All-Stater’s by the state’s largest newspaper.

Chappell and Cotton were named to the all-conference team, Oklahoma City Area Baseball Coaches Association All-City game, and the Oklahoma Coaches Association All-State teams.

Cotton finished his BlueJay career with 37 homers when he added 14 round trippers this season and 12 last season to complete three seasons in a row with double-digit homers. No other BlueJay has more homers in a career then the right hander. He added a .426 batting average along with 54 runs scored and 61 RBIs.

Chappell, who will be a part of the Cowley County baseball team next season, capped his BlueJay career with 30 dingers, including 9 this season, eight his junior year, seven his sophomore season, and six as a freshmen. He batted .449, scored 45 runs, and added 55 RBIs.

Haynes competing on high levels

The Guthrie Lady Jays track program has been on the rise in the last few seasons with sixth and seventh 5A finishes at the state tournament, At the same time, Micayla Haynes has been on the rise too.

Haynes, who will be entering the 7th grade this fall, competed with the Guthrie Junior High this past season as a sixth grader and easily held her own. In fact, stood out.

She collected 25 gold medals and a bronze this past season and was undefeated in the long jump. On June 5th, at Norman High School, Haynes came away with gold in the long jump, 100 meter, and 200 meter dash.

Her recent success qualifies her to compete at the national qualifier in Tulsa (June 24-27th), but before that, she will compete at the Sooner State Games, June 19th, at Yukon High School.
