Relay team sets school record, again

Publisher’s Note: After breaking a Guthrie High School record Thursday afternoon at Edmond North, the BlueJay 4 x 100 team broke their own record the very next day again at Edmond North.

The team ran a 41.77 eclipsing yesterday’s run of 41.92. However, that was not the fastest time as Southmoore ran a ridiculous 41.40.

How fast is fast? The Jays time ranks 21st nationally and Southmoore’s is in the Top 10 nationally. Guthrie is one of the smallest schools on that national list.

Thursday’s original story:

Records were meant to be broken and it did not take long for one record of Guthrie High School’s track milestone’s to fall.

The team of Emmanuel Robinson, Dustin Bohanan, Chaunsey Dumas, and Alphonzo Wilcots ran a time of 41.92 in the 4 x 100 to set the school record at the Edmond North meet. The 41.92 is .03 quicker then the previous record that was set a year ago.

Wilcots has filled in on the team for the injured Corbin Crockett.

The Guthrie relay team has the second fastest time this season behind 6A’s Southmoore. According to head coach Gary Boxley both Southmoore and Guthrie have two of the top 50 times in the nation this season.

Last season Clayton Smith, Laron Parker, Dumas, and Robinson ran a 41.95.

In other events, Robinson and Dumas both qualified in the 100 meters today at the Edmond North track. Robinson, a junior, is ranked 13th nationally in the 110 hurdles for under classmen.

Senior Chelsey Dumas had a personal best throw of 47-02 in the shot put, but was only good for 9th place. However, he is currently ranked 6th in Class 5A.

The 4 x 800 relay team of Jason Ogan, Zac Cates, Colin Betchan, and Alex Dorio finished fourth overall.

For the Lady Jays, freshmen sensation Roseta Galbraith qualified for the 100 hurdles and 100 meters with a time of 12:52 in th sprint run.

Senior Rachel Roberts, who will run next season for Harding University, ran a personal best 12:20 since her surgery in mid March, and finished sixth overall in a stacked field in the 3200 meters.

The track returns back for the finals today at Edmond North starting at 3:30.
