Titans take two from Jays

The Guthrie soccer teams traveled to Midwest City and took on rival Carl Albert Tuesday evening. For the Lady Jays it was their season opener.

The Carl Albert girls picked up a 3-1 decision over Guthrie. The Titans are currently ranked 4th and improve to 2-0 with the win. Bre Williams had the lone goal for Guthrie.

For the boys team, Guthrie dropped their second game in a row with a 2-0 setback. The Jays have failed to score in the back-to-back losses. The Titans improved to 2-0 while Guthrie falls to 2-2 on the young season.

Both teams will look to get in the win column in their home opener today with a match up with Class 6A’s Shawnee Wolves.

Guthrie Baseball picks up big win

The ninth ranked Guthrie BlueJay baseball team jumped out quickly and often Wednesday evening on the Harrah Panthers to pick up their third win of the season.

Jaden Chappell hit his first homerun of the season in the easy win Wednesday afternoon.

A 20-5 win keeps the Jays undefeated in conference play (3-0) and improves to 3-1 overall. Guthrie steps out of conference play today when they travel and play Northwest Classen. First pitch is set for 4 pm.

Senior Corbin Crockett (2-0) picked up his second pitching win of the year with the more then enough offense.

Senior Jaden Chappell and freshmen Bryan Dutton each hit a homerun for their first of the season.

Next week the Jays will participate in the Southern Oklahoma Spring Break Shootout in Lone Grove and Ardmore. The Jays will play Durant (Thursday 12:00), Broken Bow (Thursday 2:30) , and Lone Grove (Friday 5:00) before playing on the final day in a cross bracket game.

Highly Touted Prep Athlete Talks Baylor

He holds offers from schools all across the country including an offer from Baylor. He is a special athlete that plays his high school football in the state of Oklahoma. Read what he had to say about Baylor only inside.

Brothers now has offers from Missouri, Duke, Kansas State, Syracuse, Tulsa, Baylor, and Iowa State.

He holds offers from schools all across the country including receiving an offer recently from Baylor. He is a special athlete that plays his high school football in the state of Oklahoma. His name is Kentrell Brothers and at 6-2 205 he is one of the highly recruited linebackers in the region.

“Missouri, Duke, Syracuse, Kansas State, and Baylor, of course,” says Brothers when asked what offers he currently holds.

The Guthrie High School star plays on both sides of the ball. Last season at Guthrie, Brothers earned second team All-State with 95 tackles, 17 sacks, four interceptions, and a fumble recovery. On offense he had 62 catches for 1,122 yards and 12 touchdowns. But Brothers is being recruited as an outside linebacker.

“Baylor is coming up,” says Brothers. “They’ve been getting better the last few years, and I am seeing them being contenders in the Big 12.”

With several offers already in hand, and more to come, Brothers is likely to hit a few Junior Days soon. He discusses what he brings to the football field.

“I bring a lot to the field. First, my work ethic. I’ll keep working on something until it is right. Second, my ability o play different positions.”
