The Guthrie Lady Jays golf team has two events under their belts as they shoot for the state tournament for the second year in a row. A season ago, they finished seventh while playing in state for the first time in some time.

In both their tournaments this year, Guthrie has a had a golfer finish second overall.

In the Lady Jays Invitational held March 4th, sophomore McCandren Lewis had a second place showing and senior Kacey Acker took second in the Ponca City tourney that was held at Lew Wentz Golf Club.

Guthrie finished second overall in their own tournament and this past Monday finished fifth, in a shorten event due to the Oklahoma rains. The fifth place show was impressive considering the field was comprised of 6A schools.

“Kacey played really well considering the weather which was brutal,” head coach Mike Longstreth said.

Up next for Guthrie is the beautiful Rose Creek Golf Club on March 25th, but before that the junior varsity will compete in the Lady Jays Par 3 Shootout on March 23rd.
